GEAR REVIEW: Sanyo VPC-WH1 HD Waterproof Video Camera
The VPC-WH1 was released in 2009 and claims to be the first lower cost HD waterproof video camera.
Starting with the recording medium, the camera has 43 MB of internal memory that could be used for taking stills, but for the most part your going to be using SD or SDHC cards for recording video. The camera can support an SDHC card up to 32 GB. When shooting HD (12080x720), 16 GB will give you just about 4 hours of recording.
Next, lets talk about the recording format, which is AVC/H264. This format is the latest compressed video format providing higher quality with reduced file sizes. AVC/H264 video can be edited when stored at a high enough bitrate (aka bandwidth). The VPC-WH1 records around 1 Megabyte per second, not really good enough for most high quality video editing applications. The specs show 9 Mbps, but thats bits, not bytes (1 byte = 8 bits).
So, if you are buying this camera for fun purposes you will be impressed, just realize the video quality doesnt compare to semi-pro cameras.
What about being waterproof? Well, it really is waterproof, at least to 9 feet. We tried it and it works! Pretty cool for such an inexpensive camera. Based on the way the panels seal, Adventure Online TV would not recommend using this camera in a situation where it would be exposed to spraying water. In that case, Adventure Online TV recommends wrapping it in plastic or something to reflect the direct spray.
As far as the zoom, it includes a 30x optical zoom. This feature is impressive, especially for the price of the camera. One thing to keep in mind is that with such a zoom, you are going to need a tripod. Adventure Online TV tried to hold the camera still against our chest and you could see our heartbeat shaking the image at 30x! If your not going to be zooming in that much, you will have less of a problem.

Three well established events set the stage and brought the wake world together this season for some action packed wakeboarding and wakeskating. Large cash prizes, overall bonuses and the chance to earn prestigious titles enticed riders from all over the region to participate in the 2009 WWA Europe Wake Park Series (EWPS). With over $70,000 in total cash prizes on the line, a progressive one lap format and widespread support from the wake community, the 2009 EWPS proved a huge success in setting higher standards for competitive wake sports in the region!
The Ukrainian Wake Park Open at X-Traction Park in Kiev kicked off the series on August 21st, followed by the Foster’s Cup at Cable-Island in Magdeburg, Germany and concluding at Princes Club near London at the King of Cable.  This is some wildlife footage shot at the Viera Wetlands near Viera Florida. While we were walking around we noticed this duck swimming in a strange fashion, only to realize that a gator was attached to the back of it! Its really interesting as the gator swims towards an island, other ducks begin to follow along.

 The Tybee 500 is a 500 mile endurance catamaran race that is sailed on 18 and 20 foot beach catamarans. The race begins in the Florida Keys and sailors compete in daily legs over six days as they sail the 500 miles, all the way to Tybee Island, Georgia. This is one of the toughest sailboat races in the world. Two sailor teams are exposed to the elements from 5 to 12 hours per day and may start and finish in large pounding surf. The race takes place each May, and the race homepage is www.Tybee500.com.

 Its Adventure Online TVs 100th Video! For our 100th Video, Adventure Online TV teamed with Full Sail Film College in Orlando, Florida to create a half hour TV Show Pilot. Part of the challenge for the Pilot was that it had to be live cut, meaning that once the show started, it was recorded live with no cuts from start to finish except commercial breaks.
The show consists of three segments, and includes our house band, The Nouveaux Honkies! Guests include Canadian National Rock Climbing Team Member Andrew Calder, Flight1 Skydiving Team Members Jay Moledzki and Jessica Edgeington, and Velocity Sailing Team Members Trey Brown and John Casey. Hosted by Adventure Online TV creator Brian Karr, and Produced by Full Sail Student and Adventure Online TV Producer Nick Stephan.

The World Wakeboard Association (WWA) along with Governor LRay Villafuerte Jr. and the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) have again partnered to bring you the 2009 WWA Wake Park Worlds with $80,000 in total prize money to be held on March 25th – 29th, 2009 in the beautiful province of Camarines Sur, Philippines.
Alongside the 2009 WWA Wake Park World Championships pulled behind the cable, CWC will again host the first stop of the WWA Wakeboard World Series during the same week. The CamSur Rider’s Cup will kick off the World Series behind the boat, with all of the world’s top riders competing for a chance to become the WWA Wakeboard World Series champion at the end of the season.

 The 23rd Annual Cocoa Beach Surf Company National Kidney Foundation Surf Festival was held in August at Shepards Park, Cocoa Beach, Florida. The festival included music, food, events, and Tandem Surfing. Tandem Surfing has a rich heritage that has shaped surfing culture for generations. It's a beautiful expression between a man and woman that is both athletic and artful. A synergy of surfing prowess with partnership skills only found elsewhere in figure skating and adagio dance. The first recorded photograph of this amazing sport was in Hawaii in the early 1920's. Through the 50's and 60's teams from Hawaii, California, and Australia competed regularly, but in the 70's the sport all but died out. HawaiiTandemSurf.com and this group of dedicated surfers are committed to bringing the sport back.

 Drifting has exploded into a massively popular form of motorsport in North America, Australia, and Europe. Usually, drift cars are light to moderate weight rear-wheel-drive coupes and sedans. The cars quite often have different tires on the front and back, and the owner may have quite a few sets. This is because a single afternoon of drifting can destroy a new set of tires. As a rule, good tires go on the front for good steering. On the back, hard-compound tires are used, quite often second-hand ones that tend to end up in a cloud of smoke. 15 inch wheels are common on the rear, as 15 inch tires are cheap.

The Bright House Networks World Skin Cancer Foundation's Third Annual Fall Classic - a month-long series of outdoor special events to raise awareness and funding for the fight against skin cancer - will once again conclude with the Sean and Skippy Slater Invitational Surf Contest, the weekend of November 7 - 9, at the Hilton Cocoa Beach. The event is being presented by The Cocoa Beach Surf Company and Ocean Potion.
The Slater Invitational will be highlighted by the participation of the Slaters' brother and surfing superstar Kelly Slater, who recently won a record ninth surfing world championship. The return to Cocoa Beach will be Kelly Slater's first visit to his hometown since clinching the milestone surfing title and will put the crowning touch on the Foundation's 2008 Fall Classic, which is already in full swing. |

 The countrys largest celebration of mountain sport, soul and culture returns to Vail once again with The Teva Mountain Games in June 2008. Professional and amateur outdoor adventure athletes from the Vail Valley and around the world converge upon the mountains and rivers of Vail to compete in seven sports and ten disciplines including: freestyle and extreme kayaking, kayak and raft paddlecross, bouldering, speed and dyno climbing, mountain bike freeride, big air, cross country, and road racing, as well as trail running, and the GNC Ultimate Mountain Challenge.

 The 2008 St Thomas Rolex Regatta was a resounding success. Hotly contested one-design racing occured on the St. James Circle, including the high tech catamaran class. The picturesque distance races from the East End of St. Thomas to Charlotte Amalie harbor and back have established themselves as an Island tradition. The beautiful and yet tactically demanding Pillsbury Sound Race in and among the cays between St. Thomas and St. John, is a highlight of the Regatta.

Swoopers exceed speeds of over 90mph during a swoop. Unlike traditional skydiving, swooping takes place at ground level in front of a crowd.

 The level of riding in Florida was really impressive with some huge kiteloops being had, some crazy overpowered super high handlepasses, massive jumps, some serious beat downs and some people getting seriously drilled from blown 40 plus foot madd manuevers in the gritty and punishing jupiter shore break, did i mention a sometimes over head shorebreak just waiting to chew on the unsuspecting and slightly underpowered innocent kiter, some smoking current, some killer strapless surfboard riding at an unreal level and on sunday everyone was going off!

 An amazing race for sure. Sean Reyngoudt, loosing his prospetic leg half way, body dragged after it and came in and put it back on to finish 23rd. Chan Anschuetz riding the whole way strapless and finishing 20th with no wax left on his board. Billy Parker finishing 3rd on a broken board. Hamish Macdonald kept coming to the beach, on his surboard, to re-inflate his leading edge by mouth until Gary Menk giving him his kite at the check point to finish. It was an amazing sight to see that many kiters leaving Jupiter in those conditions followed by the helicopter with Paul and Dasher hanging out the side. 1st rider coming in 10 mins faster than last years winner Andy Hurdman.
